INDIANAPOLIS
– Franciscan Alliance and American Health Network have forged an agreement in
accord with with Centers
for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) which will serve more patients with top-notch,
timely care, while reducing Medicare costs through closer coordination of
services.
The Franciscan AHN Accountable Care Organization
is among the first selected nationally to participate in the Medicare Shared
Savings Program, a new multifaceted service sponsored by CMS.

among the first health-care organizations to be selected in Indiana under the
Shared Savings Program, our ACO advances our goal of providing better access,
better treatment and better value for the patients we serve,” said Robert J.
Brody, president and CEO for Franciscan St. Francis Health, which is a member
of Franciscan Alliance. “Our ACO signals our steadfast, common commitment to
health care options which are second to none.”

The new ACO
is expected to reach an estimated 28,000 Medicare patients in Indiana,
providing primary and a variety of specialty care services.
The Franciscan AHN ACO has what is described as the “Triple Aim” goal:

Nationally,
116 ACOs have entered into Shared Savings Program agreements with Medicare.
The Franciscan
AHN ACO is not the first time Franciscan Alliance has taken the lead on forming
an ACO.
In December
2011, the organization was the first in Indiana – and one of only 32 nationally
– to be selected by Medicare to participate in the Pioneer Accountable Care
Organization (ACO) model. That model currently serves more than 22,000 patients
throughout central Indiana.
