St. Francis Health lauded by Indy Black Nurses group for public health outreach

INDIANAPOLIS – Franciscan St. Francis Health has been awarded the 2011 Distinguished Community Service Award by the Black Nurses Association of Indianapolis, Inc (BNA).

That honor was presented to the hospital today (Oct. 21) at the group’s 7^th Annual Luncheon at The Ritz Charles on the city’s north side.

The award, which was accepted by Susan McRoberts, chief nursing officer and vice president, recognizes Franciscan St. Francis’ exemplary record of volunteer community service based on its achievements for improving the health and social conditions of individuals, families and communities.

“The St. Francis team encourages others to lead healthier lives through community partnerships, educational programs in school and churches, health screenings and public seminars presented by the medical staff,” the BNA in presenting the award.

The BNA cited the many programs in which Franciscan St. Francis provides outreach, such as the patients it serves at the Neighborhood Health Center and the Parish Nursing, Senior Promise, Center for Hope, and child and adult immunization programs.

The non-profit BNA is one of 76 chapters affiliated with the National Black Nurses Association. The mission of the organization is to eliminate health disparities, address the health care needs of African Americans and other minorities and improve the quality of their lives.
