St. Francis nurse touched by an ‘Angel’ award for work with assault victims

INDIANAPOLIS -- Many who have met or worked with Caroline Fisher, R.N., say they are humbled by the work she does nd the way she cares for patients. But she says it’s she who is honored by her patients’ trust in her.

Fisher will be honored at the third annual Angels of Grace Award luncheon Saturday, Sept. 25. She will receive the Angel Michael Award as a woman who is a defender of the dignity and goodness of others.

Fisher is the coordinator of the St. Francis Center of Hope and a community leader in the care of victims of sexual assault.

A 10-member committee of lay women and Benedictine Sisters at Our Lady of Grace Monastery, Beech Grove, selected her for the third annual Angels of Grace: A Celebration of Women.

“I particularly appreciate the Angel Michael Award, because of the correlation to St. Michael as I know him,” said Fisher. “The ancients gave the care of their sick to St. Michael; thus, he is considered the patron saint of paramedics. This relationship fits well with not only my career as a nurse, but also my love of emergency nursing.

“I go into work to ‘take care’ of patients, and I am the one who is blessed by their strength, honesty and trust,” she said.

Also receiving awards are television journalist Anne Ryder and community activist Julie Molloy.

To register for the Sept. 25 luncheon, call 317-788-7581 or send an e-mail to benedictinn@ benedictinn.org by Sept. 11.
