Franciscan St. Francis Health among America’s 100 ‘Best Hospitals’

Indianapolis hospital recognized for consistent superior clinical excellence

INDIANAPOLIS – Franciscan St. Francis Health-Indianapolis is among the recipients of the Healthgrades 2015 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ and top two percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide. 

The hospital was cited for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, an online resource providing information about physicians and hospitals and was the only hospital to receive this distinction.

“This recognition for our hospital clearly shows we are among the very best-performing hospitals across the nation," said Robert J. Brody, president and CEO for Franciscan St. Francis. “It also demonstrates the depth of commitment of our clinicians and support staff who work hard to ensure our patients have solid access to the highest level of health care possible.”

From 2011 through 2013, recipients, as a group, had a 26.4 percent lower risk adjusted mortality rate across 19 procedures and conditions where in-hospital mortality was the clinical outcome, compared to all other hospitals.  According to Healthgrades, patients treated at a hospital receiving the award had, on average, a 29.3 percent lower risk of dying from heart failure than if treated at a hospital that did not receive the award.

Hospital honors late physician with Distinguished Service Award

INDIANAPOLIS – Thomas Charles Wisler Sr., MD, recently was honored posthumously at the Physician's Dinner Dance as recipient of the annual Distinguished Service Award. He passed away Oct. 28, 2014, after 35 years in medical practice at Franciscan St. Francis Health.

The award was accepted by his wife Patricia Wisler, MD, and his son Thomas Wisler Jr., MD.
 

Dr. Wisler was a graduate of Cathedral High School. In 1963, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1966 and retired as lieutenant commander in 1983. He attended the Florida State University Program in Medical Sciences and graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine in 1975 and later completed his residency at the University of Cincinnati.
 

He practiced obstetrics and gynecology with Beech Grove Obstetrics and Gynecology/Women's Health Partnership from 1979 to 2008 and was in solo practice from 2008 until his death.
 

"Dr. Wisler represented excellence and longevity in providing care to women throughout the south side," said Christopher Doehring, MD, vice president of medical affairs. "His distinguished service mirrors the mission and values established by the Sisters of St. Francis 100 years ago."
